Summary: "I need your help"
Word count: 597

Her name was Justine Dumont at the moment. She had been negotiating for some very lovely pieces of jade and pottery that might have been illegally obtained by the very wealthy and very powerful man called Dominic Morales. He was technically a businessman who imported and exported goods but whispered to be in the drug trade.

It had been a charming dinner at his mansion, she thought as she entered her hotel suite, until it had been interrupted. Dominic had excused himself to receive the apologetic visit of the local constable.

"It was an accident, Victor." She heard him growl in lower-class Spanish, rather than the very proper Castilian he had been using to her. "That is all you have to say. That is all you will say."

It wasn't until she was in the rented car headed back to the hotel that she caught the news that a journalist and his wife had been killed in a accident near an archaeological site in the mountains. . .

She reached for the light switch in the bedroom.

"Leave it." The gruff voice sounded familiar.

"Who is there?" She asked in careful French. He stepped into the square of light from the living room; wearing camouflage and black, his face unshaven and grim. "Eliot?" She dropped her accent.

"I need your help." He said bluntly.

"Need you to smuggle out something a lot more valuable than them antiques you're conning out of Morales." He let her into the room. She gave an involuntary gasp at the small figure of a sleeping child tucked into her bed.

"Her name's Ysabella Rosales." He whispered.

"Rosales? The journalists that were killed? They're saying it was an accident."

"No accident." His flat tone confirmed her suspicions. He bent over the little girl, touching her gently. In the low light, she could see there was a warm, tender expression on his face she had never seen in the time she had known him.

"Tesorita," he whispered. Little treasure. "Wake up, just for a little while."

She whimpered, but rubbed her eyes and sat up.

"Tesorita," he turned. "This is . . .?"

"Justine Dumont," she supplied.

"Senorita Dumont is going to help you get away."

"To the place with the horses?" she asked. He nodded. "What about you, Tio Eliot?"

Uncle Eliot? It made her blink.

"I'll see you when I can. Go back to sleep now."

She followed him out into the lights of the living area. He looked tired. "Horses?" she asked.

"Martin Stables in Kentucky," he handed her an envelope. "Give this to Amiee."

"And what about you?"

He smiled. It was a smile that made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end and sucked all the warmth from the room. "Hope you weren't too fond of Dominic Morales. Eliza Rosales' maiden name was Spencer."

Spencer. "Your sister?"

He didn't answer as he left by the balcony that had probably been his entrance.

Justine Dumont and a large crate of goods left by private jet for Paris the next day. She vanished in Paris, but the Marchioness Willoughby and her niece purchased a stylish new wardrobe before they flew to New York. From New York, Sophie Deveraux brought Ysabella Rosales to Martin Stables in Kentucky.

Between New York and Kentucky the international news reported the disappearance of Dominic Morales from his mansion. Information started turning up about drug deals, stolen archaeological treasures and a number of murders that Interpol would be very interested in questioning Morales about.

He was never found. At least not intact.

Ooh, very nice little snippet. It almost feels like it should be an epic, but it's complete as is. Nice seeing the softer side of Eliot.

Believe me, it started to threaten to become an epic but I have enough irons in the fire as it is! I knew I was doomed as soon as I saw Eliot walk into the bar with his cup of coffee in "The Nigerian Job."

BTW - you don't happen to know if there's a Leverage fic community?

Hi... Bast pointed me at this fic because I've been inflicting Eliot fandom on her lately!

And, it you haven't found them already, there are a few
Leverage fic coms around now, my personal favourite is geteven_getfic.

Thank you! I hope you liked the story.

I loved this. And as usual, I haven't the faintest clue about the series that forms the background of this story - so you have done a lovely job with the writing. As usual.

*hugs and love*

I'm glad you liked it even if you don't know anything about the show. Leverage was a show produced by TNT network - it's the story of four "criminals" - a theif, a con artist, a hacker and "muscle" led by an "honest" man (by the thirteenth episode I doubt he can claim that!) to provide the common man some Leverage against corporate giants.

The episodes are on Itunes and are just wonderful!

Now no one had better touch me right now
In this cold-blooded thick skin

You posted it! Here're some likely places to post it--it needs a wider readership!

This is wonderful!

When you get stung with the heart of a little child, well, that's how you get that rattlesnake smile

You don't mess with family. I can totally see Eliot doing this.

Very nice! I could see this as an ep of the show. Well done!

Excellent. Eliot needs more back story than just fighting. He and Sophie don't have any family mentioned in the show and you just know there's a lot of who they are now tied up in who they were as kids.

I used to be in anime fandom and one of the things they say in there is that "no one fights without something to protect." I'm glad you liked it!

Oh, this was lovely! ::grin:: I can really see this happening. (Correct me if I'm wrong since I may have read too many fics - but didn't it say in the series he had a niece? I also enjoyed seeing all of Sophie's aliases.
just_ruth From: just_ruth Date: March 4th, 2009 02:42 am (UTC) (Link)
Thank you. Honestly? I don't remember if it was said on the show and may have to re-watch the episodes to see if you're right. Sophie is fun just for the number of characters she comes up with.
sjrspike From: sjrspike Date: March 4th, 2009 06:18 am (UTC) (Link)
Actually, in 'The Miracle Job', he said his nephew would love the proposed Bible-topia theme park.
theoriginal_ist From: theoriginal_ist Date: March 4th, 2009 11:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, I knew about the nephew. But I thought there was a mention of a niece too...::must rewatch::
sjrspike From: sjrspike Date: March 6th, 2009 11:46 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hmmm, I don't remember any mention of a neice ... please, let me know the ep/scene if you find it again. Thanks.

I will. I'm going to rewatch all the episodes I have this weekend. But like I said...I could have imagined it or incorporated a fic or something. But if I find it I shall let you know.
