Dreams - Not a rock, I'm just Ruth
All Me, no apologies
Three times now, I've had the same dream at night.

I'm walking down a road through a forest in autumn. I'm surrounded by golden leaves. Two dogs run up to me from the woods. One is HUGE - a black Mastiff-looking dog whose head comes up to my chest when he sits down. I'm afraid of him at first, but he wiggles (no tail to wag) and grins and slobbers on me so I stop being afraid and think he's a big ol' softy.

The other dog is also black - a mini-pin that's black and tan. He keeps running around me, nipping at my ankles. When I reach down to shoo him, he nips my hand.

Both dogs come with me as I start walking again, the big dog on my left - the little dog running in big circles nipping at me the whole time.

Any ideas as to what this means?

To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts.

To dream that a dog bites your on the leg, suggests that you have lost your ability to balance aspects of your life. You may be hesitant in approaching a new situation or have no desire to move forward with your goals.

To see a happily barking dog in your dream, symbolizes pleasures and much social activity. If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of making demands on people and controlling situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions.

To dream that you are buying a dog, indicates your tendency to buy your friends or buy compliments/favors. Alternatively, it suggest a need for you to find companionship.

To dream that you are dressing up your dog, signifies your attempts to cover up your own character flaws and habits.

Also consider the notions associated with the word dog, such as loyalty ("man's best friend") and to be "treated like a dog".

The color yellow has both positive and negative connotations. If the dream is a pleasant one, then the color yellow is symbolic of intellect, energy, agility, happiness, harmony, and wisdom. On the other hand, if the dream is an unpleasant one, then the color represents cowardice and sickness. You may have a fear or an inability to make a decision or take action. As a result, you are experiencing many setbacks.

Black symbolizes the unknown, unconscious, danger, mystery, darkness, death, mourning, hate or malice.

If the feeling in the dream is one of joy, blackness could imply hidden spirituality and divine qualities.

To dream in black and white, suggests that you need to be more objective in formulating your decisions. You may be a little too unyielding in your thought process and thus need to find some sort of balance between two opposing views. Consider the views and opinions of others. Alternatively, black and white dreams is a sign of depression or sadness. You may feel that there is not enough excitement in your life.

Brown denotes worldliness, practicality, domestic and physical comfort, conservatism, and a materialistic character. Brown also represents the ground and earth.

I use this site quite a bit and found their symbol interpretation to be pretty good. Of course there is always individual connections that a person has to an image based on his or her life experiences, but that is something that has to be factored in at a personal level.

Thanks, I'll think about it-I've also done some poking on Wikipedia on "Black Dog" (ghost) The Black Dog is either a protective or defensive spirit.

In Wales, where my maternal ancestors come from, black dogs lead the Wild Hunt.

Maybe the black dog is protecting you from letting the worries do more than nip at you.

what's big and looks bad isn't always so, but watch it for the anklebiters?

*laughs* maybe so, but I like Lil's explanation better - I have had worries nipping at me.
